Buzz Wine Beer Shop

So this is pretty much the beer and wine shop I created when I was a kid playing with action figures.
Featured in this wine tasting event held in Makati Manila Upper East Restaurant are five Sparkling wine regions namely Champagne, Saumur- Loire, Spain, Italy and Germany. Featured on the line up of wines for this tasting are Champagne, Prosecco, Cava, Sekt and a delightful Sparkling Rose Sec from Loire Valley of France.
Yats Wine Experience is a public wine appreciation event. Because there are no sponsors, participants are never exposed to pushy wine salesmen or subjected to boring sales pitches and speeches. Every event has a different theme designed to highlight a certain aspect in wine appreciation. Although the whole point about Yats Wine Experience is really to have a wonderful time with wine and congenial company, many participants leave the event knowing more about wine.
Admission is p1,900 but tickets can be purchased in advance for Inclusive of a wine-friendly buffet served by Upper East Restaurant
YATS Wine Cellars regularly hold non-commercial wine tasting to help wine enthusiasts expand their knowledge of wine in a most enjoyable and affordable way. These tastings are different from other commercial tastings. The wines from these tastings are not sponsored by a wine merchant and there are no salesmen. You are in the company of people from all ages and all walks with one common interest – wine.
Tickets can be purchased in advance at a discount. Each ticket comes with five tasting stubs. The wines are lined up at a wine service station. Present a ticket at this station to surrender the stubs to redeem a tasting pours (roughly 55-60ml per pour) of five wines on the line-up.

Someone will always be available to answer questions or discuss topics pertinent to the theme of the wines in the event. Otherwise the event is a self-paced tasting exercise that is the most structured and economical way to sample interesting wines.

For this event, we re-visit some interesting and some up-and-coming wine regions in France. Fine vintage wines are being discovered much to the (pleasant) surprise of the more adventurous wine enthusiasts who took the trouble to seek out new and exciting wine regions within the geographical areas commonly referred to as “the old world”. For this particular Yats Wine Experience session, we visit these wine regions:
– A great deal has been said and written about Champagne which is the most successful example of market branding in wine. Exclusivity of the brand name Champagne is as heavily defended as that of Coke and Pepsi. Is Champagne all about brand or is it really distinct from the rest of the field. The answer is clearly “yes” as this comparative tasting will surely show. Champagne is an impossible combination of complexity with a sense of levity. It is our choice on how seriously we want to approach it. But let’s not be distracted by the bubbles. There is some seriously attractive (white) wine behind the fizz.
– Italy’s top-of-the-line sparkling wines are called Prosecco which confusingly as usual, also happens the name of the grape that is used in the sparkling wine. Prosecco is made in Veneto. Many of us have tasted it in the famous cocktail drink called Bellini. Prosecco sparkling wine is generally dry but a bit more fruity than French Champagne, making it a friendlier entry point to the world of sparkling wines.
– Sparkling wines in Germany are called Sekt which comes in many styles from dry to something sweeter called “doux”. This MUMM Elegant Extra Trocken Sekt is a classic-styled sparkling wine, dry and vigorous, a worthy example of German Sekt. Consistent with German tastes for lighter wines, alcohol levels of most Sekt’s are a bit lower than other sparkling wine. This MUMM weighs in at a modest 11.5%, about 0.5% lower than most champagne for example.
– Long been dubbed, a bit unfairly perhaps, the poor man’s Champagne, Spanish sparkling wine called Cava has risen from mediocrity into a venerable sparkling wine. One of the most significant breakthroughs is the switch over to the French Champagne production method which is referred to in Span as “Method Tradicional”, a most costly process but one that adds so much more complexity to the wine.
– Saumur Rosé Sec from the Loire Valley is famous for its full-bodied Rosé but also makes very attractive sparkling wine like this Sparkling Rosé that is aromatic,

This week’s Winecast features Kristi Payne, who owns and operates Vintage Vine, a 3-year-old wine shop in Roslyn, Wash. Amy Mumma and her wine education program at Central Washington University in nearby Ellensburg provided inspiration for Payne, who has been drinking Northwest wines for more than 30 years. She’s now a judge at the Washington State Wine Competition, and the focus of Vintage Vine is Washington wine. This weekend, Roslyn – where the TV series “Northern Exposure” was filmed – also celebrates the opening of its first winery. Swiftwater Cellars and winemaker Tony Rynders cut the ribbon at their amazing multi-purpose facility overlooking the Rope Rider golf course within the Suncadia Resort.

WineDivaShop.com, a website dedicated to fun, sassy, and sophisticated gifts and apparel for women wine lovers was launched last week. Wine Diva Shop carries an extensive selection of wine apparel, whimsical hand painted wine glasses, wine totes, witty cocktail napkins and many more items geared towards wine divas and wine princesses.
Wine Diva Shop was the brainchild of Su Vino Winery owner Chari Scott. “I wanted to create a one-stop shop where ladies could find fun, witty, and sassy gifts and apparel for themselves or gifts for their girlfriends. I also wanted to make it a fun shopping experience so we have fun colors and sassy comments that most wine divas can related to. So much of the marketing of wine gifts today is bland and focuses on boring things like corkscrews, decanters, and utilitarian items like that. On the other hand, we focus on fun and interesting items like wine totes with humorous quotes and shirts with rhinestones,” said Scott.
The most popular items offered on Wine Diva Shop are the painted wine glasses. In addition to the very popular Lolita wine glasses, Wine Diva Shop also carries an exclusive line of hand painted Girlfriend Wine Glasses, painted by a local North Texas artist. There are even several Christmas designs now available in both series of wine glasses. “We wanted to create a place where women can come and indulge their playful side for a little while and find some fun things that help express their personality,” stated Scott.
Wine shirts are also a very popular item and Wine Dive Shop has several to choose from including rhinestone wine t-shirts with several fun designs including “Got Wine” and “Kiss my Glass.” Wine Diva Shop also has several different wine related night shirts with designs by Emerson, as seen on the television show The View. To complete the wine apparel ensemble, there are several rhinestone covered hats available for purchase.
Wine Diva Shop also offers gourmet treats like wine infused chocolate sauces, wine truffles, and wine soaked chocolate fruit treats. “Women love wine and women love chocolate. They definitely have a place together,” said Scott. Wine Diva Shop plans to offer more gourmet treats in the coming weeks like brownie mixes that ask for wine as part of the recipe.
With over 250 different items to choose from, including several exclusive items, Wine Diva Shop is positioned to be the leading destination for fun wine related gifts for wine divas.
Wine Diva Shop is a division of Su Vino Winery, an award winning winery located in Grapevine, Texas. Su Vino Winery (http://www.SuVinoWinery.com) has won over 50 medals for its wine since its inception in 2003.

After months of research, analysis and ‘many bottles of wine,’ 100BestWines.com launched last week as an online solution for the casual wine drinker’s foray into enjoying wine. Targeting a large segment different from that of most online wine sites, and promising to eliminate the intimidation of wine jargon and wine ratings, 100BestWines’ focus is to make it easy to learn about, choose, store and enjoy wine.
“Being members of our intended demographic, and recognizing the hurdles people that aren’t wine connoisseurs face, we strive to make it simple for everyone to choose wines they will like and they can afford, and discover what accessories might help them to enjoy their wine,” states Mike Gassman, one of 100BestWines founders. “By stripping away the perceived aura surrounding wine, we hope to help people discover that the best wine is always the wine they like best,” continues Gassman.
The 100BestWines website builds upon three major components. There are numerous articles encompassing general information on wine, wine gifts baskets, wine clubs, wine storage, wine glasses and accessories, and personalized wine to improve the knowledge of readers and assist in their purchasing. There are online retailers listed for each article category, with a description of the vendor’s expertise in that segment as well as highlighted product choices. And, of course, there is a list of their 100 recommended wines, broken down by varietal and cost, and with notes from the winemakers.
About 100BestWines.com:
100BestWines.com, founded in 2006, provides an online resource to help learn about and shop for the best in wine, wine accessories and gifts. With the stated goal of making everyone’s wine buying simple, 100BestWines maintains a list of 100 recommended wine selections that are kept current based on availability, as well as informative articles to help with the selection of wine glasses, wine coolers, wine clubs and wine gifts.
